8 Tips for Making the Perfect Superfood Latte
Ever since I started using superfood powders regularly, I drink at least two — often three — superfood lattes a day. They take only a few minutes to prepare, and they blend beautifully into warm milk, creating colourful drinks that feel both comforting and energising.
Whether you've already tried superfood latte recipes before or you're just starting to explore superfood powders, here are a few simple ways to get the very best out of them.
1. Avoid boiling water
Extremely hot water (around 100°C) can reduce the natural properties and colour of superfood powders. If you like to dissolve the powder in a splash of water first, use lukewarm water — ideally no warmer than 40°C. The same goes for milk: warm it gently, just until it feels pleasantly hot.
2. Choose your plant milk wisely
Superfood powders contain no added sugar or flavour enhancers, so they won't hide the taste of a plant milk you're not fond of. For a well-balanced latte, use a milk alternative you genuinely enjoy on its own.
Across Europe, the most reliable options tend to be:
- Organic oat milk
- Organic rice milk
- Barista-style pea or oat drinks (Sproud, Alpro Barista, The Bridge, Minor Figures)
A good-quality base makes a noticeable difference — both in taste and in colour.
3. A milk frother makes everything easier
Mixing powders perfectly smooth with a spoon isn't always simple. A handheld or electric frother makes the whole process faster, creamier and more consistent.
4. Electric milk frother — the one-minute method
I picked up this idea from a European food blogger, and it became my everyday routine.
If you have an electric milk frother (like the Nespresso Aeroccino or similar models), you can prepare a superfood latte in less than a minute:
- Pour plant milk up to the max line
- Add one teaspoon of superfood powder
- Start the warm frothing cycle
Just keep an eye on the temperature (see point 1). In about a minute, you'll have a perfectly mixed, silky latte.
5. Sweeten gently and naturally
If you add refined white sugar, you lose the natural harmony of the drink. Choose a plant milk that tastes good on its own, or use a mild natural sweetener like agave syrup or a touch of maple syrup.
6. Mix it with coffee
If you're not fully ready to swap your morning coffee for matcha, you can still enjoy superfoods in your daily routine.
One of my favourite occasional treats is this simple Blue Spirulina Iced Latte:
- Mix 200 ml of plant milk with one teaspoon of Blue Spirulina powder
- Pour it over ice
- Prepare an espresso
- Gently pour it on top to create beautiful layers
It's refreshing, colourful and surprisingly balanced.
7. Try it iced
As soon as the weather warms up, I move from cosy warm drinks to refreshing iced lattes. If you already have a favourite recipe, try it cold — most superfood drinks work wonderfully over ice.
8. Add spices for something extra
Superfoods pair beautifully with warm spices. A few of my favourite combinations:
- Butterfly Pea + cinnamon – soothing and aromatic
- Activated Charcoal + dried ginger – bold and earthy
- Curcumin + black pepper – a classic pairing used traditionally to support the natural qualities of turmeric
Small additions like these can completely transform your latte.
Feeling inspired? Explore different combinations, play with spices, try it hot or iced — and enjoy creating your own colourful rituals at home.
